Day 4 of Ochre Research Recap from this year’s NEH Public Scholar grant. Bonjour Roussillon! The Luberon region has a rainbow landscape of ochres that have been mined for centuries. Today, they are part of the region’s eco-tourism efforts to connect visitors to landscape and history.

The biogenic ochre experiment continues! Harvested the first batch and love the sparkles from the iridescent sheen that stay in the pigment and watercolor. (Link to 11.5kya collection/processing biogenic ochres in Pacific Northwest DOI:10.1038/s41598-019-53564-w)

There's definitely ochre-y sludge happening but I'm not seeing bacteria under the microscope yet. Anyone with tips on viewing ferrophagic bacteria?? #ochre
