London, UK has a murder rate of 1.2 per 100,000.

West Palm Beach, Florida, USA has a murder rate of 8 per 100,000.

Seems to me the mayor of London is doing a better job running his city than the mayor running the city closest to Mar a Lago. Mayby instead of talking ignorant shit about London's […]

It would be hilarious if Paramount cancelled Colbert and installed Bari Weiss at CBS News and then didn't manage to gobble up WB. That would be funny as hell. All that fellating and they didn't get paid. lolz.

This year has been really brutal for trees in Ireland. Has anyone reported on the reduction of tree cover this year?

Why can't you become a millionaire being a teacher or a nurse? Like, just doing that, not extra jobs, not including a spouse's assets, not including inheritance. Just their salary. Obviously putting some into property and/or investments over time, but with normal returns.

OK, this is fun, I have a #raspberrypi 4 in my living room for running a Jellyfin client. I learned I can build arm containers on it by installing #docker on the pi and then running docker -H ssh://living-room COMMAND. Way easier than ssl configuration!

The FEMA peace prize thing is utterly embarrassing as an American. It's like a participation in corruption prize.

So my limited understanding of #physics is that we live in four dimensions - space and time. Is energy just another representation of time?

I have this as-yet-unreleased project I'm working on. I've been playing around with the storage layer - my goal is a pure-Go, local storage system. Back in the day I would have used Berkeley DB with C, but I thought I'd look a bit further. My current line of thought is a storage layer like MUMPS […]

With regard to Mark Kelly and Donald Trump, the film A Few Good Men would seem instructive. And Trump is playing Col. Jessup's role. A role I've long thought MAGA supporters viewed as the hero of the story.

Also had back spasms later. Looked it up. Apparently colonoscopy prep will dehydrate you. You need to drink more than normal - and also take in extra salt and potassium.

Not sure what the spooky midget corn field was about brain, but the parched […]

I had the weirdest dream last night.

First, it seemed rushed. Instead of things just happening it was like there was a director describing the setting. "OK, so you and your girlfriend just broke up and it was amicable and you are now walking away from her farmhouse. But the real reason you […]

The far right wants to drag us all back to some imagined time when things were better. I'm beginning to agree. I'm thinking 1789 Paris.

TIL: the same people who go mental about EVs, also go mental about heat pumps. And they get really angry about both of them.

Really wonder if stroke rates have been rising beyond what demographic shifts would indicate...

The postman brings Hugo dog treats every time he comes to my house. Hugo now thinks that everyone in a van brings him treats. Two houses are being constructed just down the road from me on the walk that I do with Hugo every day. Hugo keeps going up to each van on the sites. Hopeful.

It's still so weird to me that the idea of universal healthcare is so political here. It's a given in so many other places, and I miss it. And people don't realize how good it is for innovation. You can take so many more risks when your health and well-being aren't tied to a salaried employer.
