because in almost all cases an crash through oom is worse than that appliaction running slow in which case the user can exit it safely, i think in general the pardigm for swap on linux is to use it as sparingly as possible
October 23, 2025 at 1:11 PM
like i undestand it theres the swapiness value that controlls how the system weighs between using swap and trying to free memory in use and if there is still any memory being needed after normal ram is full it will get it from swap
October 23, 2025 at 1:11 PM
i know but isnt oom only triggered once both ram and swap (so the entire virtual memory) is full so the excess memory needed by star citizen once it goes over 32GB would just be pulles from swap? would probably be bad any ways as it would probably make the game nearly unplayably slow
October 23, 2025 at 8:14 AM
But doesn’t that mean it works if i understood your post correctly it never got to a state where all the memory is used so using swap before that would be bad for performance and the oom killer should only kill the process once the swap is full as well?

might be a good idea to setup a swap file/partition and set it to a very low priority/swappiness so it doesnt run out of space

Backup the data you need and re add it after you are done

Honestly i thing gentoo is not really about being hard but more about waiting for every package to compile (although apparently there now are some precompiled ones)
October 18, 2025 at 1:22 AM
ok then maybe pipewire is just not enabled so you could just enable it with systemctl
October 16, 2025 at 10:50 AM
If thats their goal than they already failed miraculously because tiny10 and tiny11 exist
October 16, 2025 at 10:48 AM
yeah ok that probably means it doesnt have bluetooth could also check lsusb to make sure
October 12, 2025 at 8:21 PM
also look at rfkill if bluetooth is blocked for some reason
October 12, 2025 at 8:12 PM
you could also look at the error message you get when you start the bluetooth applet from the terminal (should be something like blueman-manager ) (if not just check TAB-completions for blue)
October 12, 2025 at 8:07 PM
sorry my bad its just bluetooth /bluetooth.service without the d
October 12, 2025 at 8:05 PM
gotta login as root then i guess
October 12, 2025 at 6:55 PM
ok that means that the bluetooth service (/daemon) is not started you could try looking at systemctl status bluetoothd to see if/whats wrong with it
October 12, 2025 at 6:41 PM
might be worth it to just try if bluetoothctl via the terminal works
October 12, 2025 at 5:44 PM
technically sudo rm -rf / —no-preserve-root
October 12, 2025 at 5:40 PM
for real audio on archlinux is pretty random but just restarting pipewire works pretty often for me
October 12, 2025 at 5:37 PM
Honestly using emacs with orgmode works really well it‘s kinda a balance between WYSIWYG and pure text
October 12, 2025 at 5:34 PM
You could test if what you need works on a Live USB
October 12, 2025 at 4:24 PM
thats basically the case for anything in X11 but there is development to move xfce to wayland
October 9, 2025 at 1:14 PM
You could try ChromeOS although that is very limited or the almighty TempleOS
October 9, 2025 at 10:16 AM
i have run vic3 and ck3 both through wine and natively and both worked but performance through wine was a lot worse tbh my laptop is kinda trash
