A week ago, Freedom of the Press Foundation, a Paramount shareholder, said it planned to file a derivative lawsuit if Paramount settles with Trump. The letter sent today by the California State Senate to Paramount is clear on this point.

I'm not crazy about Gorsuch's line of argument here, because the last thing the Endangered Species Act needs right now is to be held up to ridicule, but....he's got a point.

The federal government and Resolution Copper filed a joint motion yesterday in Apache Stronghold v. US, asking the AZ District court to narrow its 9 May injunction: enjoin the land transfer, but not the publication of the Final Environmental Impact Statement.

Sauer's latest letter (left) to the Supreme Court in Apache Stronghold v. US misrepresents the AZ District Court's order (right). The AZ Court is talking about "what has changed" since 2021, when it first heard the case. The 2024 split 9th Circuit decision created new uncertainty.

Republicans are pushing to include HR 3195 in the reconciliation.

This bill is a cheat, designed to give a foreign mining company with ties to Trump -- and with a terrible environmental record -- the permits it could not obtain by legitimate means.

Two actions, side by side.

Left, early termination of Glencore’s probation for violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (20 March 25); right, Glencore-owned Northmet mine has been fast tracked (2 May 25).

(Do not be surprised by Glencore’s involvement in any Ukraine or Congo minerals deal.)

I updated this post with the news that Apache Stronghold is now seeking an injunction to prevent the federal government from charging ahead with the Resolution Copper land swap. The conclusion spells out the "existential" stakes for the Apache.

"Also present in your box will be six young men representing the six Washington area counties. These young men are the champion ball players from each county." Details on the six Little Leaguers from Nixon's diary, 7 April 1969.

@dicknixon.bsky.social UPI wire story: six Little Leaguers, all from the Washington area, took turns sitting next to the president. He treated Jack Hoffman, 13, to a hot dog and slapped David C. Brooks, 15, on the back when Frank Howard hit a home run.

Any account of how we got here should probably spend some time on this 2002 letter.

Lots in this WSJ story, but this is the quote that caught my eye. The "attitude" is laughably credulous, and there's no hint of awareness that corporate America's pursuit of an "exceptionally pro-growth agenda" might itself have contributed to the current crisis.

In October of 2024, I wrote: "things might only get better for Talon if Trump were ever to make good on his lunatic promise to make Elon Musk some kind of efficiency czar."

I said "might."
