Post Card - Mary Hopkin (1969)
I've had Those Were The Days on repeat lately because I like to torture myself with songs lamenting better times. Jokes aside, Mary Hopkins voice is just as mesmerizing as it is haunting.

Taco - After Eight (1982)
I've been looking for this one for a while, but I also watched Young Frankenstein for the first time (thank you weird luck). I just love every version of Puttin' on the Ritz so much.

Fine Young Cannibals - The Raw & The Cooked
I set She Drives Me Crazy as my morming alarm one night this week (that weird luck again). The snare frightened me out of bed. Effective, but no thanks.
I'm obsessed with the liner note art.

Session musicians on the album include David Gilmour and Ted Nugent which is also very apparent on certain songs. I realized the decision to hire was because the actual band doesn't have a guitarist.

Now spinning: Count Three and Pray - Berlin (1986)
I always have weird luck finding music I've had stuck in my head but that's probably to my local record stores credit. This album includes Take My Breath Away which is featured on the Top Gun soundtrack.

Now Spinning: Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness - Smashing Pumpkins (Bootleg) a nice gift from my BIL. I also gifted him a TOOL live 1993 bootleg I found in Austin a couple weekends ago.

#6 Swimmer - Tennis
Another indie pop album with elements similar to the one above. My wife introduced them to me as her favorite band and they've quickly grown on me since. The band actually consists of a married couple, so the themes in their music are very relatable to us.

#5 Picture You Staring - TOPS
I love everything about this album: the chorusy rhythm guitar, the punchy snare, the warbly keys, and of course the soft vocals. This album is a good representation of the type of soundscapes I look for in both modern indie music and my own.

#4 Drowners - Self Titled
A combination of alt indie and nostalgia remnicient of The Strokes. I remember discovering Watch You Change when I was working as a lifeguard so I'll always associate it with summer. Nowadays I still listen to this while bicycling or longboarding.

#3 How Could it Be - Eddie Murphy
This one's just fun. Between Murphy, Rick James, Stevie Wonder, and the undoubtably copius amount of '85 quality cocaine, you just know they had a good time in that studio. See: Party All the Time music video

A collection of songs you didn't realize you knew your whole life. In retrospect, this album feels like one of the blueprints for modern indie pop with soul elements, to the point where when I first heard It's Too Late, I cheekily called the artist "Proto-Tennis"

This weekends haul
#1 Djangology - Django Reinhardt
Not a really big jazz collector, in fact I find the whole genre very intimidating to dig through. But, Minor Swing has been in my studying and focusing playlists for so long, it was irresistible, and for $5, a steal.
