N grunted in his sleep, disturbing Uzi from her thoughts. His fingers twitched, and his nose bump wrinkled into a grimace as he rolled his shoulders against the ground beneath him. A low growl rumbled through his chest, tail flickering in a display almost as threatening at the opal fangs now poking out from between his lips in a near snarl. For a moment, Uzi wondered if he was dreaming; chasing prey across the city or fighting Cyn by her side. But there was something in his movements, something too deliberate, it wasn’t the typical jitters of limbs sprinting in a dream. He growled again, and this time she could hear it, the low, rasping tones of fabric grinding against pavement. His coat. N was rolling his back and shoulders slowly back and forth against the floor, over and over again. She’d seen him do this before – whenever he thought she wasn’t looking – usually against the concrete walls of the bunker, or the thinner edges of metal girder supports. It had seemed harmless enough at the time, but now it was starting to worry her; this close, she could see how harshly he was rubbing himself against the rough surface. Even with an advanced healing factor, the constant scratching couldn’t have been good for him. Pocketing the marble, Uzi shifted so that she could instead curl her fingers around one of N’s huge, bear-like hands. His fingers shuddered, then enveloped hers. “Woah, hey… hey,” she whispered softly, stirring him lightly from his restless slumber. He groaned, blinking open a single, bleary eye at her. “You’re gonna like, scrape all the casing off your back if you’re not careful.” “Mm…” N rubbed his visor and sat upright, leaving behind a multitude of oil speckles on the dusty grey pavement where he had been resting. “Sorry… didn’t realise…” Uzi’s hand hovered close to his back, but she stopped herself short of touching him. It was probably fairly tender now, and she didn’t want to hurt him any further if she could help it.
