Here's a fun trick with Advanced 3D in After Effects:
1. Animate a 3D model
2. Precomp and use 3D Channel Extract to get its depth map
3. Apply CC Ball Action and use Brightness to drive Displacement
4. Colorama and Glow!

Bohemian and Cedar Waxwings in a snow flurry. Sometimes in winter the large northern Bohemian will travel south and join a flock of Cedars. Their waxy feather tips are a bright pop of color against soft creamy gradients.
