oh i get it now lol! i dont know if the word salad explained it, but i was like halfway there, but stuck in etymology hell. ie still would work but in context of micro blog i think etc fits much better. have a good night

hopefully that makes sense. anyway i think that "i.e. 'x'" achieves the same effect but makes more grammatical sense.
i dunno its a complete non issue hopefully this doesn't come off like that but i saw it and started thinking about it. the brain is a magical thing

the way I interpret "'x,' etc" is usually as a fragment of a sentence referring to something in a third person stance ;
so like, when you replied "'answer-shaped response,' etc." to yourself, you were contextualizing "answer-shaped response" as a quote/excerpt rather than as a novel idea
