I used to work in polling in the UK and think the British Polling Council is a great model - but I do think it would be difficult (but not impossible!) to replicate in the U.S.

Organizations such as The Pew Research Center, Gallup, NORC, PRRI and others are also producing high-quality polling that helps fill data gaps in federal surveys. These surveys require a significant commitment of resources and it is important these organizations continue to invest in polling. (6/7)

The KFF/LA Times Survey of Immigrants is another example of KFF’s polling filling in a gap from federal health data. This was the largest nationally representative survey focused on immigrants to date. (4/7)

KFF’s surveys tracked vaccine uptake among key demographic groups (including party ID) and distinguished uptake of initial vaccine doses from boosters, providing an important comparison to CDC estimates that had problems linking booster doses to initial doses. www.kff.org/coronavirus-... (3/7)

The abrupt removal of federal datasets and increased uncertainty about what data will be collected and reported in the future highlights the role that non-government polling can play in complementing federal survey data.
