That makes sense, I try to not put too much weight behind what the director or writer says, like their intent can be useful, but what they unintentionally are saying is often more interesting than what’s intentionally said

I guess I see something of a transgender allegory in there, Deckard’s identity ultimately becomes his to dictate and whether he was or wasn’t a replicant before doesn’t really matter, but I like to think he was because it means who we are isn’t programmed or dictated externally but internally.

Not necessarily, if he is a replicant and chooses to leave to embrace a more human life, does this not decouple the psychology of humanity from the biologics of humanity? I think his being a replicant reinforces that theme because he’s a machine being a human, not a machine being a machine.

To this end I felt like the theme was what makes a human isn’t the components, but the actions, and to that end, every Replicant in the film is more of a human than most the humans Deckard interacts with. But whether Deckard is Replicant or not I find more interesting in its ambiguity than confirmed

I’m not sure I agree, but then I found the thematic arc to be in the ways these characters confront the lie of their existence. Batty is sent to die on a mining colony and at the end of his time he lashes out to try and buy more. Deckard, upon realization that his time is limited, runs to live it.

So if I’m not a dude can I agree with the latter but not the former? I assumed it was left ambiguous for the audience to determine, but I like ‘Deckard is a replicant,’ I think it’s more thematically resonant than if he’s just a human. But his longevity in 2049 made me rethink that stance so I dunno

What’s really baffling to me about the original post in there is that like… no, that’s what we want, I’d love for a family to own a home on a single income & be able to grow produce in the front yard I just also want that for BIPOC and LGBT+ people and to stop subsidizing corps and genocides via tax

New Vegas is such a beautiful game, it’s one of very few games that’s deeply engaging as both a piece of entertainment and a philosophical text, and I think that’s particularly true when playing with @jesawyer.bsky.social Hardcore patch and you’re forced to truly engage with the Mojave ecology.

Like we have the Khan’s who have been pushed into other groups’ territories, the 3 Families who all got culturally imperialized, Caesar’s Legion is a genocidal tribal assimilation machine, and all of this comes to a head in the Honest Hearts conflict which has brutal ongoing real life parallels.
