sometimes even if they don't look visibly damaged they're still out of spec and are outputting wrong readings, bulging/leaking was really only a major issue during the capacitor plague and that was a bit after the dreamcasts time

damn yeah, if you already swapped caps and tried laser its almost definitely a dead laser, you can buy the lasers themselves standalone without the whole drive assembly for a lot cheaper since it sounds like ur comfortable fiddling, the part is SPU-3200, just desolder a bridge on it

also if you have the money you can just swap out the whole drive, its extremely easy, no cables to fiddle with it just has a little plug so you pull it straight out, replacements are usually $40 on ebay, or you can get a GDEMU mod (install is same no cables/soldering) to read from SD card for $80-90

yeah reading as music discs is basically a telltale sign that ur gdrom is going bad, 90% of the time its the capacitors, but turning up the laser pot is a quick fix, also try cleaning the laser with isopropyl, mine did this and after a clean hasn't happened again, dreamcast is surprisingly durable

are you playing on original hardware? i get some lag at the start of battles and I'm unsure if its an issue with the game itself or if its because im using a compressed burned CDI and its uncompressing or something

some people just ported gta 3 and vice city to the Dreamcast, i built some copies the other day and they work /surprisingly/ well, like fully playable levels of good

Waiting on my mic to come in to play seaman, very excited :) had the Dreamcast for a few days and im loving it, piracy is so easy! :D

is it worth getting a saturn? I'll probably get one anyways i just got a Dreamcast, but i took a quick look at the game library and didn't see anything super intriguing except lunar, any suggestions that stand out?

try burning some to CDs and seeing if that works, if not might need to swap the capacitors on the GDrom, or if ur not comfortable soldering turning up the pot on the laster VERY slightly will fix but it'll also shorten the life of the laser a bit so cap replacement is preferable

any tips for swapping caps on the GDrom? just starting to get some read errors on discs, it likes reading selfboot CDIs as music files, a reboot usually fixes it but i might as well do it

like is the "badness" they're accusing northsky of, because of one of the people mentioned and their history? im really not familiar with any of the names mentioned, nothing in the screenshots is especially aweful it just looks like friends saying some mildly mean things about someone for reasons

okay okay, im confused, i literally just opened bluesky for the first time in a while and found out about northsky, i think im missing a lot of context but how is it supposed to be a takedown of northsky? its like some mildly mean things said not even in the northsky spaces to my understanding

thats the thing, i think they already did, i think this is a stunt to make it seem like some miracle last minute recovery by meta and trump, hence the message on tiktok

yeah ive heard the PC port works really good, i just like to play games like that on original hardware for no real objective reason, it just makes it feel more "special"
