It was such a wake-up call the day I was seen as a dancer first and no one knew or cared whether I was an academic. Then, it was a revelation when I no longer cared if they knew my educational history!

The speeches included UCU and Unison stating this is a class issue and a misogyny too, and we have power within the unions to take collective action.

Why is it Trump isn't going after universities that are unionised?

I mentored students who were part of a 6 week enterprising project creating public health solutions - from undergrad to MSc and from humanities to STEM. Many showed they'd learned about their transferable skills & I thought more academics would have benefitted from this, myself included!
Event including University of Liverpool and Civic Data Coop with a group of students at the front of the room receiving certificates recognising their finalist positions for their public health business pitch. Many people are watching and clapping

As an american who moved to the UK 17 years ago for a better life for me and my family, I'm worried about the restrictions of rights for trans people. I wrote to my MP @paulabarkermp.bsky.social ... Hoping for a response...
As a former lecturer in the DClinPsychology programme at university of Liverpool and now a business owner, I wanted to express my concern but also offer my help, should you ever require it. I moved to the UK from the US in 2007 with my family and have naturalised. [Redacted] Since then, we had been on the waitlist for gender affirming care which we've now given up on ever accessing. The NHS clinical psychologist who assured us as late as April 2024 that services for trans youth were her top priority... well, she's been silent since bans came in. The worst part is realising why this is happening - it's not based on the evidence base! I'm an award winning researcher in child development - I was recognised in the Parliamentary buildings. Further, my role at the University of Liverpool was to train our clinical doctorates who were about to enter the NHS about running systematic reviews and quasi-experimental research. When I read the Cass Report, I was horrified and I bet our students would have torn it apart. They haven't had to since there are now many reputable scientific organisations across the world who have identified line-by-line biases. My purpose in writing to you is as a scientist, a mum, and member of a just society, which is an oath I took to uphold in my UK nationalisation ceremony. I hope you will protect trans children and adults. I expect you to represent everyone in your constituency and question the health secretary as he limits rights to bodily autonomy and listens to radical "gender critical" groups. Also, I worry that with limiting gender affirming care, we legitimise conversion therapy which is taking hold in the USA under Trump. Labour must reject these transphobic leanings rapidly. My child and their friends continually thank me for supporting them and their journeys. As my child turns 18 years of age this year, I'm thankful they've had me as a protector and an advocate — a true mama bear!

How do Latinos just find each other!? I went craft shopping down a small road in the garment district and then heard salsa music and was beckoned by a Dominican woman - she said "comida" and I was inside!! Pasteles, flan, tamales etc from many different countries!

My kid wants a contrast wall for their room. They don't want to decide so we're using the cat... maybe putting food in front of each colour to see which she prefers... those doing animal studies... any advice?

First box that I decided to unpack was not even academic books
Bookcase with a full shelf dedicated to an encyclopedia (akin to 90s published books by Time Life) called Crimes and Punishment and number 28 illustrated volumes... you can also see some vinyl and DVDs and horror books on the shelves underneath

Went for an 8mi walk & met a teenager from the local girl's school who said of my outfit: I Love All Of This! We chatted about the election in the US and women's /LGBTQ rights. She said her teacher was upset in class when she heard about Trump. I'm glad I could be there to have a chat in the park

I was speaking today about how PhDs aren't taught re: soft skills because academia solely cares about our quant-driven metrics.

Things like h-index, grant income etc

But rarely collaboration, participative management etc

So we brought our colour today and learned to articulate our skills for jobs

My partner makes fun of me because of my ADHD and the way I open (read: destroy) packages but I'm thinking this is next-level

Zainab is more than suitable for the position. Zainab is the most diligent person I've known and catches on to new concepts exceptionally well. She is caring and responsible and always arrived on time for meetings, sending texts or emails to keep me informed if she were ever going to be late. Zainab has an easy poise that means she takes initiative when things need to be done. Her natural curiosity and intelligence means she asks questions and is willing to ask for help rather than guess at what is to be done next. She was curious enough to attend an Oxford University online workshop and nurtured a relationship she made with one of the presenters to learn more about succeeding at university. Perimenopause is when I discovered I had ADHD.

After redundancy, I looked into my problems with sleep, my fuming about injustice, my needing more transition time between activities, and generally feeling less able to deal with emotions.

It was perimenopause & ADHD- double surprise!
Menopause and ADHD: Loves to collaborate --- hates being told what to do Strives for perfection - Takes rejection as absolute failure Has good insight into how to fix things --- lacks the motivation to lead organizational changes Loves having passion projects - Promises family **this** is the year work commitments will calm down
