After 2 decades working in media, I'm leaving to enroll in an MFA.

I'm proud of the career, but the burnout became real.

This #oilpainting evokes feeling dried up, yet looking forward.

The girls are fighting, aren't they?

What a week.

This #painting is 'Year of the Rooster', 28x48 inches, oil on canvas.

The rooster is my #chinese #zodiac sign. #Roosters are brave, observant, and talented.

In the wrong circumstances they can tend towards self-righteousness.

"Like Fighting Water", oil on wood panel.

#Betta #fish are known for their confrontational nature and aggressive displays of beauty.

Even in situations that seem pointless, I like to think that asserting confidence with unapologetic style can boost inner strength.

A bit different style...

"Omen of the Sundog", #gouache #paint and #ink on #paper.

A #Sundog occurs when the sunlight refracts through ice crystals high in the atmosphere.

Historically, they are seen as a sign of change: an omen of good or bad luck. Contemplating interesting times...

Transport options in #Yellowknife: #dogsledding, or #snowmobiling...

What a handsome fella this doggo was. Small and fast, but densely packed with muscle. 💪

Ride up to the Snowking's #Winter Festival for ice sculptures and live music in -26C!

Another view of the #Dettah ice road, connecting #Yellowknife to Dettah.

Ice roads are sometimes the only way goods can be transported to areas in the #NorthwestTerritories

Definitely need some grippy tires to drive across this frozen lake!

Look how beautiful the blues in the ice are....!

Looking into the abyss!

Standing on the ice road that connects #Yellowknife to #Dettah (a #FirstNations community) in the #NorthwestTerritories.

The ice is estimated to be 4-6 feet thick in places. Trucks drive daily over the ice from December to April.

The clarity of the ice patterns is unreal!

Happy #Portfolioday! I'm an oil painter, although sometimes I use different mediums.

I draw from imagery growing up as part of the Asian diaspora and now as an adult whose job has taken me all over the world. I believe in a humanity that is multi-layered and multi-cultural.

On medical leave for some health stuff, so booked a getaway to #Yellowknife to chase Auroras!

Shout-out to B.Dene for their Aurora tour on an ice lake and for the intro to Dene drumming! (Winged Auroras are called 'Phoenix')

Despite my 2025 resolution not to get sucked into the chaos, I'm still doom-scrolling.

Self-inflicted harm dominates the news lately, so this oil painting reflected my feelings. Themes of betrayal and violence between little creatures that should be closely related allies, yet tragically cannot be.

This painting is in memory of my little void cat, who passed away at 12 years old. We rescued her as a kitten from the Bronx streets.

She hated the outdoors and preferred indoor sunbeams.

She loved salmon sushi and would cry to be picked up.

"I Still Miss You, Baby", oil on canvas

Throwback to an old painting I did of a wood pigeon back when I lived in London for a friend's charity event. Oil on canvas.

I remember I rushed to paint this for the event. I'm afraid it wasn't entirely dry when it was hung. It sold the opening night, so it was worth the rush!

"Egg, Larva, Pupa, Adult", Oil painting on canvas, 16 x20 inches.

What memory do you hold in your heart as you grow older?
