The "masculinity narrative" that implicitly demands we validate their pernicious grievances is disrespectful to them in that it rejects their agency, not to mention disrespectful to ourselves in that it silences ourselves.

"He didn’t think of the border issue as some faraway abstraction." Yet, the "It will never happen to US, just to THEM" thinking does stem from distant abstraction and disconnect from the reality.
"It's not about you" is cruel precisely because it is well-meaning.
