Interesting, not unexpected.

With the Chinese CO2 emissions plateauing we’ll see the global CO2 emissions entering the terminal decline phase.

Mielestäni yhden valitun toimijan ydinvoimahankkeen massiivinen tukeminen vuosikymmenien ajan veronmaksajien rahoilla on kuolleena syntynyt ajatus varsinkin tässä maailmantilanteessa.

I gave a presentation on this back in 2022 already: US banks and asset manangers backing off from Net-zero targets as the hype cycle was reversed. Back then my message was "will be backing off", in the past two years it has become a fact backed by empirical evidence.

In January 2024 we expected 2024 solar new build to be about 513GW(DC). Now we think it was about 599GW (DC).

Mind you there is still 65GW of buffer in that to cover analyst cowardice. I expect it'll mostly turn up in identifiable markets, though.

A great article on why batteries will have much more fundamental and faster impact on the energy transition than generally understood

In short, it will dramatically increase the value of wind and solar and lead to a faster than expected decline in oil consumption

What Are The Implications Of $66/kWh Battery Packs In China? - CleanTechnica
China's battery packs plummet in price again. Hydrogen prices didn't decline and BNEF triples its estimates for future costs. The implications are huge.

I'm currently building a starter pack on a critical topic: the role of finance in driving climate resilience, mitigation, and a circular economy.

Investors, financial experts, development banks, researchers, innovators: who’s leading the charge in this space? Give me your top recommendations!

Don’t get me wrong: nuclear is safe, environmentally friendly, resource-efficient and relatively reliable form of power generation.

But also an uninvestable one.

I don’t oppose purely commercial nuclear power projects which do not ask taxpayers to subsidise production costs and bear the risks.

About time to ditch the “but what about China” whataboutism and adopt a new “how do we catch up with China” narrative.

#renewables, #batteries, #electrification of end uses megatrend - things have turned upside down, wake-up time folks.
Who leads the global electrification race?

China has electrified more than 25% of its final energy use and overtaken the US and Europe.

It’s human to ask for more time to adapt when your market is being disrupted.

But slowing down is bad if you are already far behind in the race. Instead of giving more time for combustion engines, incentives are needed to accelerate and not slow down the transition to #electric #transport.

It’s often said, at least here in the north, that after decarbonising the electricity sector the next frontier will be achieving a low-carb heating sector.

My hot take (you can store it at 100% RTE for years):

The battle for the biggest heat pump:

Finland currently builds the world’s largest air source heat pump with a capacity of 33 MW - about 4,000x bigger in capacity terms than an average domestic heat pump.

The heat pump will be part of a plant that will warm around 30,000 homes in Finland’s capital city.
