I mean, this isn't new for him. His stance for a while has been "trans kids can be themselves so long as they don't join girls' sports because that's unfair."

He probably thinks that makes him look "moderate, nuanced, and relatable."

3) That strategy is reflective of Obama. He was privately in favour of gay marriage, according to some pamphlets from his younger days and Axelrod.

But he chose to publicly be "against" it until much of the states had passed their laws. Then changed face and said "he evolved" when it was popular.

2) She got to where she is because she's a standard Democrat. Her positions, her actions, and her rhetoric reflect that.

I don't think it's a coincidence the letter was released when it did. She did what many Democrats do - wait for public sentiment to improve before making "a big thing" public.

And to be clear, I want her to keep fighting anti-trans legislation in congress.

But I think she should have never done any of those interviews with Ezra Klein et al - especially if she is going to talk like that.

Her media appearances and rhetoric have been needlessly divisive.

To be fair, it's hypocritical for McBride to say "we need to be nice to people we want on our side" and then say the liberal/progressive/leftist trans people she disagrees with are "illiberal" and "betray the civil rights' movement."

She insulted a lot of people. It is expectable for them to be mad

"We have got to stop tearing each other down" is something that you will hopefully direct to her as well.

She called transgender activists as "illiberal" and their actions as "harmful." She's a politician who has decided to use her platform to criticise average trans people she disagrees with.

"I think that’s an accurate reflection of the overplaying of the hand in some ways — that we as a coalition went to Trans 201, Trans 301, when people were still at a very much Trans 101 stage."

Respectfully, she did say the latter. To say she didn't is nitpicking because it's not verbatim.
