been printing some lil gingko leaves from time to time while I work on bigger prints. gives me a chance to practice proper inking & pressing, and play around with inks & paper.

I bought a bunch of wood-mounted lino without thinking about how I'd register them. so, I'm finally vindicated for hoarding cardboard boxes and definitely not just being short-sighted.

Added some golden yellow and gray-yellow wash to the shadows on the lighted and unlighted surfaces, respectively.

Since Diablos lives in deserts and burrows in sand, I thought even the deepest crannies in his plates wouldn't be the deep black I used as primer. I want a more subtle and realistic look for these models. So I put some gray wash in the big gaps to soften the shadows a bit.

For my base coats I usually use a "middle" color (kind of the halfway value between my intended highlights and shadows) on each different-colored part of the mini. Luckily Diablos is basically all one color 🙃

So much of this game touched my heart (just check the screenshot folder on my switch), but this is the line that makes me cry just thinking about it.

Last month's #birbfest as blind contour drawings. This will not be the only busted-looking hummingbird.

Days 4-6: red kite, crimson topaz hummingbird, European stonechat

The bird is drawn perched, its two long tail feathers hanging under it. The feet are off-center from the body and the tail doesn't quite connect. The biggest abstraction is that the one visible eye is somewhere down on the bird's neck. While the body doesn't perfectly align, it has a pleasant flow as the single line moves through the form from head to feet. The body looks plump and there's a nice distinction of the layers of feathers on its wings and tail.

I don't usually do themed-month drawing challenges, for a variety of reasons (all personal failings lol 🫠). But I did last month's #birbfest as blind contour drawings, and it was a lot of fun! (Do we have a better name than "blind contour" yet?)

Days 1-3: Ross' turaco, piping plover, lazuli bunting

I finished painting Barroth like a year ago but it took me this long to buy a gloss medium to make the mud look wet 🙃

😤 Rathalos is done! the biggest mini I've painted so far - on the one hand it's fun to just slap big swaths of paint on, but on the other there's so much more surface that needs detailing at the end. 😔

I took some screenshots from the Ancient Forest nest to reference, and I forgot it's almost pigeon-like, it's such a scraggly nest 😆 Kind of endearing tbh

Putting a partial nest under Rathalos today. Sculpted some clawed-up mud, started building with twigs and faux-flower stems, now done the first pass of craft lichen to begin filling it in.
