Do It Like The Professionals When social teams look into starting up new accounts -- whether it’s for a new product or on a new platform -- they have to consider whether they have the resources to keep the account active and healthy. At an absolute minimum, this includes: A social media manager to handle copywriting, posting, content planning, etc. A video editor and/or graphic designer to make assets Enough information, videos, and images To consistently create content from Most brands aren’t on every platform -- you shouldn’t be, either. Take Stock of Your Resources If you’re burnt out on social media, trying to maintain another platform will only make things worse. You’re probably a social media team of one. Posting the same content to all of your accounts may sound like an easy way to maintain your presence across multiple platforms, but I assure you that time adds up quickly. Ask yourself this: would you rather do several platforms poorly, or just a couple of them very well? Be On Fewer Platforms Content typically performs better when it feels native to that platform. If you’re stretched thin across several platforms, you’re doing your content a disservice. Next time you see a Facebook that was clearly cross posted from Instagram, notice if you instinctively scroll past. If it feels out of place, people are less likely to engage with it. Cross posting content is something you can and should do -- we professionals do it all the time. But if you’re frustrated by all the time you’re putting in just to get a paltry number of views in return, try focusing your efforts on just one or two platforms. Not This Shit Again I see a lot of cosplayers burn out on social media because of how often it changes. Features are added, the algorithm changes, platforms pop up overnight. It can be frustrating for the professionals, too. Here are a a few of my tips for fighting burnout: Focus on the platforms that are most fun for you. what you want, when you want. The algorithm probably won’t like this, but your mental health will. Turn off notifications for likes. This helps me not fixate on how well a post is doing. Set up a website so that you have one stable platform that you (mostly) own and is unaffected by algorithms.

There is a saying in my line of work that you should never trust a social media manager who runs their personal accounts well, and I can attest that this is true LMAO. I value work/life balance (more like work/cosplay work balance...) so I rarely apply my expertise to my own accounts.f I just don’t like doing my day job in my free time! Do as I say, not as I do, and I hope you find this helpful! Claim Your Name Even if you don’t use the platform, you should claim your username on popular platforms to deter impersonators. (If you’re leaving a platform, keep your profile activated for the same reasons.) While you’re there, see if you enjoy using the platform. Social media feels way less like work when it’s fun. (There’s a reason why I shitpost more than I share WIPs. Then, if you do decide to remain active on the platform, then you’ll already have your exact username claimed and can keep your branding consistent! It's Okay To Hold Out It’s incredibly difficult for new platforms to build a user base, so there’s no shame in waiting to see if a platform actually sticks. On the professional side, we’re always looking at emerging platforms and evaluating whether or not they’re worth the investment. A high number of brands and companies using it actively is a good sign that a platform is viable. Most brands you follow will only be on a few platforms -- some will be just on one. But wouldn’t a company want to be absolutely everywhere?
