Article 37 of the UCMJ, "Command Influence" will make any actual prosecution deeply problematic since the Commander in Chief has already told every putative juror how he thinks they should decide on the merits. I don't think that's a taint that any reasonable measure could remove.

Of course you are right. It seems like people have forgotten the first verse of this song:

“The president—who has been found liable for lying on loan paperwork—is the one to make monetary policy decisions, not the person who merely has been accused of lying on loan paperwork.”

REPORTER: What about crime prevention? Do you or the president plan to do anything to address the root causes of crime in DC, such as truancy?

PIRRO: I honestly am not concerned about why they commit crimes. My concern is if they commit crimes.

Every news broadcast should run the facts split-screen in real time while Trump spews his lies.

Nice work, @msnbc.com — every network had time to prepare because they knew what was coming.

Seems like we agree on a lot, including the belief that policy choices must not ignore the government’s role in protecting its citizens. I am unconvinced that “federalization” is the solution. There’s a lot of good data that says localizing, not centralizing, the policing function is the better way.
August 10, 2025 at 1:28 PM
But since you asked, Baltimore is a regionally adjacent city with historically high crime that has made amazing progress in this regard. I think it could be a model for DC (and I think two cities’ approaches already have similarities).
August 10, 2025 at 1:03 PM
I started it to push back on the Vice President’s claim that disliking POTUS’s plan to “federalize” DC policing equated to “liking” a high crime rate (and his use of old data and irrelevant comparisons in the process)…
August 10, 2025 at 1:01 PM
You seem to only argue by categorical statements. Plenty about DC is great—like the precipitous drop in crime—and I’ve said nothing that contradicts that. I did not start this thread to argue about how DC can reduce crime…
August 10, 2025 at 1:00 PM
Your approach here is strange for someone who does not enjoy debates that break down into petty insults. I’m not saying everything in DC is great. I’m suggesting that current efforts are making marked improvements and arguing that shifting to a mass policing strategy may not be the best approach.
