Unity across disability organisations and charities in calling for MPs to vote against the UC & PIP Bill today www.ucpipbill.co.uk/wp-content/u...

A busy, productive time at Welsh Labour Conference.

Thanks to all who came to Trussell’s event on poverty & food banks.

This weekend was a good opportunity to reflect on the shared position of many in Llandudno that the UCPIP Bill should not be voted through at Second Reading.

PIP helps people with the additional costs and helps many disabled people stay in work.

Cutting PIP is cutting employment support

Good to speak to Sky News on the impact changes to disability benefits will have, and why the Govt should pause and reassess - failing that MPs should vote for the Reasoned Amendment and against the current Bill on Tuesday

Happy #PrideCymru to all who celebrate and protest 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Looking back on the shy(ish), panicked, closeted kid I used to be, I can hardly recognise myself.

And that’s the point, right? That we all have the freedom to be ourselves without fear or being told we are not welcome.

Important to meet MPs, Peers & support staff in Westminster this week.

Across meetings and drop-ins we hammered home the urgent need for welfare measures in the government's child poverty strategy, and the damaging impact disability benefit cuts will have on the children and families we support

New 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Data:

Single adults, social tenants, those w/ a long-term health condition or disability, or are on a low income, are more likely to need advice on a bailiff issue after falling behind on council tax bills

I’ve contacted my MP and cc’d the MS after reading this on LinkedIn earlier - so they know exactly where I stand

Interesting poll for Wales watchers.

In 2021, Labour were able to hold onto Plaid voters who lend their votes to Labour at a general election to get to near 40%

Reform voters in Lab heartlands doesn’t mean they were Lab voters - they’re the new/old independents

We have a generation of younger people and millennials who have seen their prospects in employment and education get worse, at the same time as support in communities and from the state has reduced.

And that was before any of us even heard of Covid.

We need to prioritise long term solutions

Spoke to Sky News about Chief Executive Dame Clare Moriarty’s warning against short-term action on disability benefits which has very serious long-term consequences

On BBC Wales Politics this morning with former DWP SoS Lord Hain

We both agree that ‘swinging cuts’ (his words) to disability benefits will not get more disabled people into work.

Also agreement that support within benefits system can improve across a number of areas

Pleased to see the Senedd ESJ Committee support @citizensadvice.bsky.social calls on enhancing crisis support through the Discretionary Assistance Fund.

Other areas of support too, not least recommendation on cash value of Welsh benefits to rise in line with inflation

Highly recommend the new exhibition at the 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 National Museum marking 40 years since the 1984 Miners’ Strike.

It shines a light on the complexity and even tensions between working people, their families, and of course the government they were in the struggle against
