This is it right? I could somewhat understand someone who has not been to London spouting this nonsense, but he works at *KCL*! Even by London-standards it's not exactly at place where you would find tension to be palpable

Thank you! Very useful. I do actually have a fair amount of prior knowledge, so if you have anything more specific that does assume knowledge then I should be able to give it a crack

Is there any reading you would recommend on the Melian Dialogue?

This makes me think about how so often people go into the show thinking their jobs (e.g., police, psychologist, magician etc.) will help them find traitors, when it wasn't until the celeb series that we actually saw useful careers: people who have worked in television production

Having worked a lot with sixth formers applying to university, it can be an uphill struggle to convince them just because a course shares a name with a high-paying career they want (e.g., accounting) doesn't mean its the most employable degree for that career (or employable generally)

Even when confronted with blatant racism, in a statement that doesn't really have anything to do with immigration, they still run the "legitimate concerns" playbook

Was watching the Laura Kuenssberg show on BBC this morning. They asked a Tory MP about this. He said he wouldn't have used those words, refused to call it racist, and then said we need to recognise that lots of people in this country have legitimate concerns about levels of immigration

I used to walk past the former location of the Welling bookshop every day on my way home from school. Only learnt what it once was when I was in sixth form, as well as the protests in 1993 (also, should not be neglected how close this was to where Stephen Lawrence was murdered)
