That bass line was the work of Jamaican-born bassist Phil Chen, who played with Rod Stewart from 1978-80 and was a much in-demand session player for everybody from Jeff Beck to Brian May's short-lived "Star Fleet Project."

It takes guts to waltz into the #WorldSeries at age 22, six weeks into your major-league career, and beat a record that Sandy Coufax has held since 1963.

But it takes guts on a whole different level to waltz into #SandyCoufax's house, #DodgerStadium, and do it while he's SITTING RIGHT THERE.

In the immortal words of Malcolm Reynolds, "Might've been on the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one."

This one's for you, #BlueJays fans. And you, #Watchmen fans, in case you're jealous the #MLB jocks get more love than us comic nerds during the #WorldSeries.
See you in 17 hours!

If it helps at all, we now have a 24-hour Denny's here in Toronto.

The restaurant unites us even in these tough times: if you want to feel like an American, it's a comforting taste of home.

If you want to feel like a Canadian, you too can get a Grand Slam anytime you want, day or night.🍳😉⚾

These are times when tempest-tost boats from Venezuela are getting bombed because they allegedly belong to drug cartels.

Times when Trump's $100,000 H-1B fee pretty much bombs the phrase "give me your poor."

And as far as I can see, "the huddled masses yearning to breathe free" "are made in USA":

Here in Toronto, on his last tour, Paul Simon said something shocking introducing "America": "It's about two young people in search of a country they couldn't see anymore. After 50 years, I'm pleased to report I've found America. It's here in Canada."

Really makes me rethink OUR commitment to this:

To be fair, his "teeth" are actually freakishly unnaturally white, both uppers AND lowers, since he has the money to get dental implants & crowns cemented over drilled-out tooth stumps instead of removable dentures.🦷

Most vain cadavers only do the uppers, leaving their lower jaw a tooth graveyard.

After coming all the way from France, little #Madeline is going to be awfully disappointed.

Though there's something about all this, though I can't quite put my finger on it, that gives me the sinking feeling the end of tours isn't the loudest cause for alarm in America right now...

…Demi Lovato began their public singing careers with "I Love You, You Love Me" opposite Barney the Dinosaur, by way of example.

God help the folks who decide at age 15 that they're going to make it as popstars. That's like deciding to start your career as an Olympic gymnast at age 40.

It has…

…new original music with other talented people. After I left the scene for grad school I've never been professional ever since. I'm never seen or heard. I can't ever "plug in" with no backup.

Music's a lonely meditation for me now. I overdub myself (see below), and make music for myself alone.

Now I see it:
The picadores in the press like have done their job.
The banderilleros in the House have got his anger up.
Even the rodeo clowns of late night have done their part to goad the beast.

We come now at last to the most dangerous stage, and the most thrilling: #JackSmith's sword-dance.

And not that any of us should take our geopolitics from Lex Luthor, but the release of a new #Superman reminds me of the other effect a three-nation MexCasCan alliance would have: "Bye bye, America. Hello new West Coast, OUR West Coast."

(A 4th nation that also make sense: NY and all states east).

There are LOTS of good apolitical stories out there. People who need a break from politics can go enjoy them.

But as long as the political landscape is dominated by a ruler whose God complex is second only to his Zod complex, then NO, #Superman movies are the LEAST likely to avoid political themes.

I just try to look on the bright side: other than the smog (and the wildfires), LA has the best weather in the world.

When is it NOT a beautiful day for kite flying? 😉🪁🌤️

It ran from Chicago to LA, straight through Albuquerque until the Interstate highway system in the '70s.

Until 1937, it ran through downtown N-S. That year, the alignment of the highway was changed to E-W, so the intersection of Central Ave. & 4th St., became the corner of Route 66 and Route 66.

It's hard for modern drivers to appreciate that in pre-freeway America, c.1940, if you were headed west to LA and turned around on the 66/66 interchange around noon, you wouldn't know you were going the wrong way until you hit the WRONG major city, or the sun started setting on the wrong side.😖

Now, now... the idea that Trump is going to enter into a sinister pact with an even more powerful, hidden evil so he can spy on everyone using one of the lost Seeing Stones is a lit...ohhhh.... oh no

If the Emoluments Clause didn't stop this from happening, not even this time, but the first time, then I'm beginning to doubt whether the Consitution of the United States of America—that country we loved & stood by, in spite of it all—has any vestigial relevance to whatever country you live in now.

What a master. One of my lifelong #guitar heroes. I'll never get tired of hearing just how clean, how superb #ChetAtkins was.

It's funny; just tonight I was going through old basement tracks & found this " #OverTheRainbow "—just fooling around on 3 guitars—so obviously a tribute to Chet's style.

If I'm ever old & successful, I'll grab a friend's grandkid who's old enough to speak a full sentence, and write a song with her.

I'll do 99% of the work; but a kid WILL independently rhyme "heart" & "apart." If I have to split the rights with her, cool! My heirs will have my share for 150 years.
