This is Metate Arch in Devil's Garden, and Outstanding Natural Area in Escalante Utah. I camped out there for about a month to get this shot right.

I don't know what it is about this, maybe it brings me back to my teenage years of IRC and BBSes, but the slow ascii communication over radio waves ticks all nerdy boxes.

This is VarAC, a digital mode over HF Radio. The software modem decodes audio from the radio in a clever way.

Hole in the rock road is a barren treacherous route traveled by early Mormon settlers in 1879. The 6 week journey took 6 months. Having spent a lot of time there I can attest to the ruggedness and will of the 250 settlers as well as their faith.
