Increasingly, his work has the blandness of a jaded old dude who has nothing left to say and instead focuses on finding ever more ornate ways to dress a word salad.

He knows it too. He probably thought he'd be so much more than what he is and ended up adopting this ugly condescension as a defence

I'm sure there's a law/rule someone can point to to say why it wasn't a pen.

But a clear goal was prevented by someone using their arm, deliberate or not. There was a 100% chance it was a goal if it didn't hit his arm.

If that's not a penalty according to the laws, it should be.

Why bother explaining when you can just pump out some smug sophistry and insipid patter about dead kids?
February 7, 2026 at 6:31 PM
Fair enough, I will make more of an effort to understand your incoherent ramblings in more detail.

And in return you can try not to be a patronising little cunt. However unfortunately I think you will be unsuccessful in that endeavour.

There are some points I agree with in this, however there is no little irony in addressing hypocrisy and whataboutery with a glib article that is mostly comprised of whataboutery.

Also, how desensitised you have become about death that you can find a way to banter about it.

A lot of people like to believe in Robert Ludlum novels. A cabal of super-intelligent machiavellian captains of industry pulling the strings as part of a grand plan to keep us mere mortals in check.

In reality it's a collection of fortunate morons stumbling from one grift to the next.

Ronaldo (R9) was in the Brazil squad at USA 94 with Ronaldão.

Ronaldão had been known as Ronaldo until Ronaldo (R9) came on the scene, but R9 was at the time known as Ronaldinho.

I heard Ken's 67. Disgraceful that the other so-called pundits didn't comment on it.

I certainly wouldn't disagree with that. He needs to improve

It's just my personal opinion but I think the truth is somewhere in between with Gyok. He clearly plays in Timberlands and should be doing a lot better.

But at the same time, it's not as if we're serving up chance after chance that he's missing. The fault isn't entirely with him
January 9, 2026 at 2:25 PM
Gyok is also basically level with xG in his Arsenal career so far. 5.32 xG, 5 goals in the league.

My point is more about the expectation that KH will be somehow transformative, which I'm not sure he will be in terms of chance creation/chance conversion.

Don't disagree at all w your broader points
January 9, 2026 at 2:20 PM
Time for him to show he's worth it.

Let's set our expectations accordingly now; it's time for him to produce the goods more often. More goals, more assists, more match-winning performances.

With that contract, it's the least a big club should expect from one of its best (and best-paid) players.
January 9, 2026 at 2:15 PM
I don't necessarily disagree with the Gyokeres sentiment but a lot of people are forgetting that one of the reasons Gyok was signed was that Havertz kept on missing incredibly easy chances.

Quite a lot of rewriting of history going on.

Fantastic piece but typo here; spelled "fetid" wrong
January 7, 2026 at 1:40 PM
Bernardo Silva. Similar build to the person I guess you're alluding to, but is one of the league's best midfielders going back years.
January 1, 2026 at 7:05 PM
That felt unusually morose given we just won for the 4th time in 5 games.

I understand the frustrations bt we are top, we're winning almost every game and have only been beaten by a rotten last-minute winner away to a form side & a freak free-kick away to the champs. All this with an injury crisis.

Yes, very much so. But it's also a much wider thing that's not just limited to them. People in mid-level and even lower mid-level management often benefit from failing upwards.

Sadly, one thing I've learned from years in this kind of environment is that the people who make decisions like this are rarely held accountable for their mistakes. Often, their incompetence simply results in a sideways or upwards move.
