4. The network helps coordinate public engagement
 
There are many good sources of general information about asexuality and aromanticism, but our network will be a useful hub for journalists looking for academic expertise and contemporary research.

3. Many researchers are early-career
 
‘Asexual’ and ‘aromantic’ are recent terms, and scholarly interest is also recent. As a result many researchers are early-career, and so in precarious employment or unable to apply for large grants. Working together gives us more power.

2. Existing researchers are based in different disciplines
 
This means they often are unaware of each other’s work, or lack the specialist training to engage with research. When researchers collaborate, philosophical argument and empirical studies can compliment each other.

1. These are under researched topics
 
There is so little work on asexuality and aromanticism, especially in philosophy (my subject). This is despite rising interest in the philosophy of love, sex, and relationships in recent decades. Getting people together motivates new research.
