This is important to bring up 12 years later because it’s not unlikely that Democrats elect a Gavin Newsom, Kamala Harris, or Pete Buttigieg type as the Democratic nominee. None of them will be agents for meaningful change. They would all uphold the status quo.

I can’t help but notice that many white liberals and moderates are only just now reacting with the intensity that they should’ve had years ago. Trump did not break the political system; he is a continuance of that which has been perpetuated for all of American history.

Minority groups have been suffering for all of American history. Just because we’re seeing it on a larger scale as compared to 12 years ago doesn’t mean this is new.
