Totally agree, the situation is disturbing. I just see a straw man argument forming ‘see they said 50% and it’s only 5!, see they’re fear mongering’, or ‘see viruses quickly become mild’. Saying ‘up to’ 50% or ‘has had’ a cfr of 50% mitigates that maybe? I’m being super picky I know.

Not to minimise the situation, but clearly not 50%, not seeing that from current US numbers, and there’s clear evidence of unreported cases which messes with your denominator.

50% is only valid if you assume their are 0 undetected cases, which there would be many, only severe cases are currently being detected. But even if only 5% would still be bad.
