Heather Heyer would have turned 40 years old today. Ms. Heyer was a paralegal who lived in the Charlottesville, Virginia area in 2017 when she heard of the “unite the right” rally. She was disturbed by protestors who chanted hateful, racist and antisemitic slogans & went to speak out & was murdered.

Wishing all a meaningful Memorial Day today.

This is a day where the families and others whose loved ones gave all are mourning and observing a solemn occasion. We should always respect their sacrifice and journey. 🇺🇸

Good times at the Matt Bunch Foundation dodgeball completion. Tons of firefighters paid tribute to the late firefighter Matt Bunch, who in 2015 passed after a battle with cancer.

A Council Gone Relentless salute to Lynn Hurtak who, unlike my lazy self, played serious dodgeball with firefighters!

Good times today at the groundbreaking for the Mackinnon Family Activity Center at a Kids Place.

This investment by the County will provide a safe space where law enforcement officers can drop off children who need help and may eventually go into the foster system.

Today is Worker Memorial Day: it is an international day of remembrance and action for workers who are killed, disabled or injured on the job.

We take time to honor the lives of those workers who died in the job - and those who have suffered great injuries.

Good time tonight at the Shanna & Bryan Glazer JCC to hear the awesome band South of Kennedy play in for a fundraiser to benefit the good people at Jewish Family Services.

It was country Western night and the best I could do was my Willie Nelson t-shirt.

Great time early this morning speaking to my friends at the Tampa Bay Chamber on hurricane preparation for 2025 and what we still must do after 2024 with regard to unfinished business.

Thank you to Board President and former State Representative Ed Narain (a true public servant) - for inviting me!

April 24 is Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Remembrance Day, where we remember the six milliom lives that were tragically taken during the Holocaust.

Today, more than ever, it is so important for our young people to have robust Holocaust education. #NeverForget

Yesterday I was able to visit and drop by the Tampa Racial Reconciliation Committee. This committee can serve many purposes - from challenging elected officials with a series of proposals to making those proposals an issue in the upcoming Tampa Mayor’s race.

April is Arab-American Heritage Month. We give special attention to the history and journey of our nation’s 3.5 million Arab-Americans. And we dedicate ourselves to a pluralistic United States where everyone has a place at the table and religious and cultural bigotry are always soundly rejected.
