It’s been awesome to give my first conference presentation ever on European criminal justice in Teramo with my dear colleague Aart De Vries. Very grateful to Prof. Emanuela Pistoia for inviting us and to her team for the impeccable organization!

Walking to/from the office in Utrecht sometimes you just stop and think “how ridiculously pretty is this city?”

This book has given me the chills multiple times. Heart-wrenching but absolutely stunning. I can only imagine how beautiful is the Spanish (original) version.

[Sunday reading] although “Doppelgänger” was published 2 years ago, today I got back to these 2 chapters @naomiaklein.bsky.social dedicated to Israel and Palestine. They provide the background knowledge for understanding what we’re watching since October 7. Must-read! naomiklein.org/doppelganger...

I was so focused on presentations and keynotes that this is the only picture I took of the “Conceptualizing Ecocide” conference. A couple of amazing and inspiring days at @utrechtuniversity.bsky.social @uurechten.bsky.social! So grateful to all speakers and fellow members of the research team!

3 minutes in, and I officially declare @bashakito.bsky.social the coolest speaker of #ESIL2025. Amazing, amazing presentation!

Super grateful to the members of the @esiligicj.bsky.social for putting together a great pre-ESIL session this morning. I had a blast presenting on immunities of Heads of States vis-a-vis international criminal tribunals (as you can tell from the photo)!

Let’s popularize bracelets for conferences. The annual ESIL conference is the Glastonbury of international lawyers. We’ll proudly wear the bracelet until it crumbles.

I mean, this is the BBC’s webpage now. They use quotation marks because they need to attribute the sentence about the attack on freedom of expression to Al Jazeera. They can’t even condemn it AS A NEWS OUTLET. This is our moral failure, plain and simple.

And this other photo (also by Heidi Levine) shows seven schools flattened by Israeli strikes. According to the author, tents for displaced people occupy the school courtyards.

This one has been taken by Heidi Levine of the Washington Post instead. We can’t look at this devastation and NOT act.

This is why Israel doesn’t want journalists in or above Gaza. This is a photo that should finally motivate everyone of us to do something. Join protests, inform people, DONATE! Stop the genocide NOW. Thanks Diego Ibarra Sanchez for taking the picture.

Actually the definition of deportation as a crime against humanity in the ICC statute applies to “persons” who are “lawfully present” in a country, thus including non-nationals. Otherwise it would be sufficient to strip you of your nationality.

Second movie: The Garden of Earthly Delights. A gut-wrenching story that forces the audience to confront the systemic issues that allow Western “tourists” to act with impunity while using Filipino boys&girls as sex toys. Big shout out to the Filipino actresses who were amazing also in the Q&A!

[Proud editor/reviewer moment] In this issue of Rivista OIDU (journal of Sapienza university’s PhD in international legal order and human rights), together with Prof. Del Vecchio we have published two short articles (in Italian) on “hot” ICC-related topics by two very young Italian researchers (1/3)
