Text of shared Seattle Times article stating: "When it comes to police questioning kids, the law requires a phone consultation with an attorney, available via a hotline staffed 24/7, if police have taken a youth into custody and are asking them to waive their constitutional right to remain silent. Seattle City Council and Metropolitan King County Council passed an even more restrictive law in 2020 that SPD was beholden to before the state law was passed, so they know what this law does and how it works. In a case like the shooting at Garfield, this law does not prevent police from interviewing the many witnesses to the tragic death of 17- year-old Amarr Murphy-Paine - those interviews do not violate any constitutional rights and are not covered by the law."
