I found this on Etsy years ago and it’s the best knitting accessory I’ve ever got keeps things from getting lost - it’s not the tidiest but i would be lost without it

I think I promised crows. The weather is chilly here at the moment and the campus crows particularly bold in pursuit of treats from me - they spot me veeery quickly when I appear.
Being spotted in cahoots with them does get me into some nice conversations too 😄

Happy New Year all, and hello to my many new followers.
Stay for the #wildflowerhour #knitting #academic chat, #ecology my cat, and possibly the odd crow 🐦‍⬛ - everything else is muted to preserve my equanimity…

Homage to Amma (maternal grandma) who could knit this stuff with her eyes shut (though she only ever did the tradition Icelandic black and white - yarns have come a loooong way!)
First #knit cast on of the year, and likely to be the first completion of the current WiPs

Have you recently started your own research group?
Are you being asked to join committees/take on roles that you don’t feel prepared for?
Do you want everyone to have a better experience of leadership in the workplace?
Elm🌳 at #BES2024 is the place to be!

We are looking forward to launching Elm!

I’m trying to knit for half an hour or so every day this month. Keeping hands and head busy by creating something, is my way of keeping stress and overwhelm at bay. 🧶
And I’m well into sock 2 so that’s good! 🧦

I feel like today we all need a nice cup of tea. Here’s where some very special tea is grown, the Jingmai Mountain, in Pu’er, SW China 🎋🌾

The only other thing I can honestly say I adopted early is various approaches to DNA sequencing environmental samples. Everything else? am slooooow 🐌

Ah, that’s definitely not a hazel (the photo is mine for comparison). I can’t see the leaf shape too well but from the way the leaves whorl, that looks like it could be an oak of sorts. I’d need to see a twig of leaves to be sure

If you are taking photos for folk to ID from pics here’s my PSA - it’s really helpful if they look like this 😊 (or slightly better lit lol)
August 28, 2024 at 5:11 PM
But is beech, definitely
The single green leaf - hazel is unlikely, it’s not hairy enough and the teeth not “toothy” enough. Here’s the description from my copy of Mitchell, and I can post you pics of the one in my garden when I get home
