5) 2025's release schedule scares me. It might be the best year for historical games ever (including some really cool games by Indigenous devs and Palestinian devs). And while there's a lot scary in the world right now, I'm still looking forward to that.

4) The dedication to doing the history (even occult/conspiracy) right meant parts of my community were able to guess plots in multiple games, down to the dialogue, quite a bit in advance. This is a credit, not a criticism! That means they're building historically coherent fictions! I love that!

3) There's a dedication to historical research and replicating archival/museum pieces that I don't remember seeing this much in previous years. Sure, Assassin's Creed and Uncharted have always had museum replicas, but Thaumaturge/Indiana Jones went to the next level.

1) Even though 2024 was a terrible year for layoffs, the number of both AAA and indie historical releases was impressive - there were a lot of games I didn't get to this year.

2) a lot of the best games looked globally, instead of just Euro/Eurocolonial history. That's cool too!
