Importantly, this suggests that children may generate a highly targeted and functional immune response—de novo, rather than relying on cross-reactive memory from other coronaviruses.

Children also have enhanced Fcγ receptor (FcγR) binding, compared to adults — suggesting that their immune responses may be more functionally effective in targeting the virus.

We explored how the humoral immune response to SARS-CoV-2 differs between children and adults. Despite having lower overall antibody levels, children were shown to generate antibodies with higher avidity for the full Spike and Nucleocapsid proteins.
