@michaelhobbes.bsky.social @yrfatfriend.bsky.social I'm ready to blow your mind RE canned pumpkin being "butternut squash" because in my home country, butternut pumpkin *is* pumpkin.

(In my worldview, and I guess all of Australia's, any cucurbit with a hard orange flesh is a pumpkin.)

How to tell the internet that I only want cute whimsical pumpkin children's book witch Halloween and not horror movies and slashers Halloween, aka what Kanopy REALLY wants me to watch

ooh you'll love Finnish cream cheese packaging! You can wash out and reuse the little box for picking berries or what have you!

The feeling when you just want a recipe to use up milk that's past its best and then you end up in the bad corner of the internet. Enjoy your bovine tuberculosis I guess.

Bedrooms and Hallways. A queer comedy from the 1990s about fluid identities, which in my opinion has aged brilliantly (and was probably ahead of its time.) Directed by a bi director, Rose Troche. The poster makes it look very stupid and bad but don't be fooled. (It is nothing like Friends!)

RIP book, thank god the TV adaptation of you was a massive improvement

Ok maybe it's just the digitisation of this book, but this book is terrible this book is terrible this book is terrible this book is terrible

I call this specific whisk thing that they love in Finland "the swibbling device." I don't even know what it's officially called, other than a whisk, because when you google "whisk" it just shows you the balloon kind.

Trying really hard not to post excerpts of this book every 2 pages but it's nearly impossible. LATCH ONTO THAT SANDWICH, GEORGE

Reading an Inspector George Gently book to see if it's as gay as the show episode based on it. Well. Not only does it seem to not be as gay (what a surprise), it's also written in a way that can be best described as something you'd hear on a dramatic reading on a bad book podcast.

Features multiple scenes where characters are about to eat something and then they realise it's rotten, which is a true visceral horror. Also a book cover that really stays with you.

Filling in a form and I love that ä etc is considered a "special character" whereas in Finland it's just considered a letter. There's not even the precedence in Finland for replacing ä with an ae like you would in Germany. Just as well my address doesn't include any!

As someone who has never worked an office job, I'm rather perplexed by this. As someone whose brain works in such a way that I can't have tv on "in the background", I'm doubly perplexed by this.

Sirkka the regular-nosed reindeer
Didn't have a little button nose because she was a reindeer
Reindeer have muzzles more like a sheep
not little button noses like a dog

Yeah it doesn't exactly roll off the tongue does it

in many ways I'm not enjoying myself with this drawing, but I'm persisting anyway. The good thing about drawing an abandoned wooden building is it doesn't matter if the lines are off, because the buildings tend to be warped and distorted anyway. #artistsofbluesky #weeklysketch

More than a sketch this time - melting snow on moss in May. Because the scene doesn't have a clear focal point and just consists of moss and foliage and snow blobs, it was surprisingly hard to draw! #artistsofbluesky #markerdrawing

Searching the old employment websites, and what can I say but some employers have a lot of cheek.

Opened a pad of watercolour paper I probably haven't touched since 2017 and found a delightful set of pharmacy jars I'd painted, presumably to form into some kind of fabric design #artistsofbluesky #surpriseart #watercolourpainting

Usually if a bird has nearly the same name eg Australian Magpie vs Eurasian Magpie, they barely look anything alike and you think "wow those colonists must have been dehydrated/missing their glasses." But this time I can't tell them apart! Maybe...slightly different leg colour? Or is that the photo?

I love job hunting in Finland. For instance, I would have been able to apply for this job but I'm not a man.

Old Mill again, different conditions! I love Moneting it (depicting the same scene in different lighting and at different times of the year.) #WeeklySketch #markerdrawing #artistsofbluesky #copicmarkers

As someone who lives in Finland, I'd say that most mothers are maha mums, given that babies do, in fact, grow inside the maha (or at least they do when you're explaining the concept of pregnancy to a child). #stupidlinguisticobservation

Well MY petty gripe is this: can people who only wear black give it a rest? You're not special, you're only doing what 60% of people already do!

Ah, so they were elovena keksi left there by some travelling Finns.
