2023: ABC refunds millions of dollars of Empty Homes Tax to developers
2025: ABC refuses to use EHT money for its intended purpose, putting 81 affordable homes for women and children at risk
What an astonishing decision by Ken Sim and ABC.

Honestly gobsmacked by ABC's referral of my road safety motion to staff.
Halloween is the most dangerous night of the year for CHILDREN.
This was an attempt to use an existing process to keep CHILDREN safe, and ABC punted it to staff w/o offering an alternative.
Really, guys?

Plan to leave your car at home on Halloween Night (this Friday night) between 5.00 pm and 9.00 pm, and if you do need to drive, take it slowly and carefully to help keep children safe on the most dangerous night of the year for child pedestrians.

Ken Sim's stunt of a motion has put the City Manager in the difficult position of delivering against an unreasonable ask, with an unreasonable timeline. The process is so rushed that we will have NO details when we vote in November.
Ken Sim won't know what he's voting to cut. And neither will you.

Ken Sim's property tax stunt starts with an arbitrary, politically-motivated number and asks staff to cut until they meet it.
We should be asking what it will take to meet the expectations of the people we serve.
I oppose Ken Sim's cuts.

We deserve a government that is stable, thoughtful, and predictable.
What we’ve got with Ken Sim and his enablers in ABC is a political roller coaster.
Instead of leadership, performance and politics.

It’s underappreciated just how radical ABC's budget proposal is. It requires deep, deep cuts.
If they are approved, it’s impossible to tell what’s on the chopping block. Libraries? Community centres? Investments that improve public safety?
I don’t know - and I don’t think ABC knows, either.

I support a democratically elected park board. Part of democracy is ensuring that the government’s decisions match the city’s values.
Vancouver is a city for all its people. Trans people included. I am calling on the Park Board to rethink this event and make this right.

Out on the picket line today with @bcgeu.bsky.social.
If you work, you should be able to live in dignity and security. Public service workers, like all workers, shouldn’t need second and third jobs just to get by.
If you find yourself by a picket line, remember: don’t cross it!

PS - while I was speaking to the CBC about ABC's transit inaction, a 49 bus showed up - and it was full. Talk about ironic

Your time is valuable. But ABC is wasting it. Instead of building bus lanes, they're chasing pet projects and planning a budget that will require big cuts. It's time for a city government that is ready to invest in transit and get us moving.

Yesterday, at a @movementyvr.bsky.social rally, we celebrated the dubious anniversary of ABC passing a motion for new bus lanes on 49th Avenue and other routes.
One year later we've seen no action - and since then, commuters have spent a collective 316 years and 52 days delayed by traffic.

This is ridiculous. During the by-election I heard over and over again about how hard it is to find swimming lessons.
Too many kids are falling through the cracks. If parents can't teach their kids how to swim in our public pools, how are they supposed to learn?

I was glad to speak to The Early Edition this morning. Homelessness has jumped 12% on ABC's watch. Their approach is failing. But instead of changing course, they're doubling down.

It was so exciting to be at the opening of Vancouver’s Granville Connector yesterday. Public space reallocated to safe, comfortable walking and cycling routes. Thank you to all the advocates that spent years pressuring politicians to make this a reality and the staff who made it happen.

The arts in Vancouver are facing the dual threats of rising costs and FIFA restrictions.
My colleague @ptfry.bsky.social brought a motion that would have provided the sector with real support. @vote4abc.bsky.social gutted it.

My motion on road safety has PASSED!
Today’s vote is a win for everyone, whether you walk, drive, bike, or take transit - or if, like most of us, you do all of the above.

🚦The only acceptable number of deaths on Vancouver’s roads is zero.
That’s why I’ve tabled a motion to support the work of Vancouver’s Vision Zero policy that comes before Council on Wednesday.
We know what works: safer street designs, better visibility, and slower speeds. So let’s get it done.

ABC Vancouver: so “pro-housing” they oppose tax reforms that make it easier to build.
Voters looking for bold housing action would be wise to look elsewhere. Perhaps at @onecityvan.bsky.social!

I was proud to second this amendment to tonight's rezoning on East 10th from @seanorr.bsky.social, to ask the developer to voluntarily extend the TRPP to tenants who weren't covered.
The developer indicated that they were willing to try to find a way to make things work.

My motion to restore Vancouver's Renter Office may have failed today but on the bright side, I'd be surprised if the word "bollards" has ever been used as many times in a Council meeting as it was today. #Bollards

I'm proud to report that my amendment to the Granville Street Plan has passed - directing staff to explore substantial road safety and accessibility improvements, including benches, bollards, bus bulbs and a bike parkade.
A good day for safer streets for all!
