If you’re reading this, and you’re standing where I was… Breathe. Don’t google ANYTHING. Cry. Scream. Throw things. Let people help you. Rest. Be selfish. Laugh when you can. Hug your loved ones. Say yes to crazy opportunities. Facing your own mortality is scary as shit. Live however you want.

A year later, I’m still here, stable. But the trauma from that day and from the treatments that got me to this day linger on. I’m exhausted. And yet, I cannot give up. I have made it one year. I hope I have many, many more to go.

My most recent scan had shown that not only was my cancer aggressive, it had already spread to my lungs and my liver. I had gone from finding what seemed to be a small lump, to being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in a matter of weeks. I felt the earth shift under me. I was in a free fall.
