It came to me in a dream, and I forgot it in another dream
Expending an enormous amount of energy to argue that *raping children you also own* isn't actually a horrific thing to do, in defense of a man who's been dead for hundreds of years

Genuinely so curious what the point of this is. Do you think if we agree that Thomas Jefferson is a bad person, the country falls apart? Like if we hurt his feelings from beyond the grave, he's going to take away the Declaration of Independence and we're going to have to start over?

This is amazing!

That's fair! Would have been more accurate to say that it's true that many Trump voters *claimed* to support him because of economic issues

For some reason I'm really struck by Mamdani saying (more or less) "people voted for both of us because they're worried about affordability." It's true, but where M means "and I'm going to help those people, unlike you," Trump hears "we agree on this issue"

I honestly didn't think he could smile like that at all

The number of times I've said "hold still so I can wipe your butt" is far more than I expected, given that I have zero human children

My fifth-grade teacher showed us what happens when you use Vaseline with condoms, which was both a good thing to learn and a great example of how sometimes you can just tell people about stuff that will help them, even if it's as awkward as talking to a bunch of 11-year-olds about sex

Good thing he managed to shoehorn some transphobia in there, definitely shows he has his priorities straight

This is kind of me - I don't believe in ghosts, but I *do* believe cats can see ghosts, so I always check in with mine when strange things happen

Remember when conservative groups wanted to boycott Finding Nemo because Dory was voiced by a lesbian?

One of my dad's dog's favorite games was to drop his tennis ball in a hole under the fence and bark at it until someone got it out for him so he could drop it in the hole again

My previous cat would come running from across the room as soon as I picked up the brush, it was great

That post about reading someone's prose feeling like being smothered with a pillow reminded me about the Feather Heiress, so instead of doomscrolling all weekend I'm going to reread Brothers Sinister (and then the Turners again if I have time)

It *is* the kind of job where you learn a whole lot about legal requirements around records retention, which would make it pretty ironic if a bunch of her most newsworthy texts got mysteriously deleted...

I really appreciate this explanation. As someone who has worked in IT for employment lawyers, my first assumption was that of course the NYT would review a fired reporter's emails, but what you're saying here makes a lot of sense.

Agreed! Mine haven't been that bad, and it's hard to find a balance between acknowledging that it's incredibly painful for some people and not scaring people away from the procedure.

This is a thing many of us learn in middle school, and yet!

Or that SCOTUS ruled that the police didn't have a duty to protect those children *because they weren't property*
