As someone who openly talks about my own kinks, I feel like that's where a big disconnect comes from. When people message me, thinking I'd engage in intimate kinks with them, just because I'm talking about them publicly and openly - but I really just want to do certain things with trusted friends.

Oh yes definitely - the more vulnerable you are in a kink situation, the more you usually want to do it with someone you can fully trust (at least that's how it is for me)
