Most likely a cost cutting exercise. NT have just decided not to spend money to maintain this historical site. Relatively recently they carried out extensive work following a landslip, and also replaced the bridge by the waterfall. Need more transparency about how and why this decision was made.

This decision has come out of the blue, unsupported by any evidence and subject to very little challenge. They’ve also closed the “short steep” path to the waterfall. Net result is more people using the few remaining paths causing more erosion, and more car journeys between the two entrances.
