I did some kitchen chemistry yesterday.
There will be a mini plant dyeing workshop held at Gripen Gard farm at Holsnøy the last weekend of August. It's an opportunity to learn something new if you are in Hordaland area 🌿

This is a beginner friendly tablet weaving pattern for those who mastered basics and are not afraid of counting and turning groups of tablets in different directions.

Weaving handfasting bands is so enjoyable. Especially when I do not start at the last minute :D

Pattern freebie! 🌷 Enjoy the spring with a themed self made accessory. I used 20 dark green, 26 white, 10 pink, 6 light green and 2 purple threads for the design. 16 tablets, all turn forward. Enjoy! #tabletweaving #fairy #spring #diy #handweaving #traditionalcraft

I love it when the effort - effect ratio is balanced. Like this band, for example. Quite easy to weave and so beautiful! It is Catherine Weaver's interpretation of Birka B23 band published on her website in 2021. I love it. #tabletweaving #littlejoys #crafturday #excited #vikingage

Just listed this belt with Birka B4 pattern interpretation. It was an interesting challenge to recreate it from a small fragment. Did the Viking Age weaver make a mistake or has the asymmetry an aesthetic purpose? I guess we'll never know. The belt is 2 m long, handwoven in missed hole technique.

I'm working on an improved version of Birka B6. Thanks for your priceless help, Theseus! 🐈

An "old" interpretation of one of Birka B6's motives. I think I need to make a sample in two-hole technique and show you the difference. #teaser

It's alive! The green and yellow band with Latvian folk costume motive was just listed. It is 220 cm long -> www.svetlonoska.com/collections/green

My try on Birka B9 in two-hole technique. I really like it despite that the second motive is slightly out of proportion. Soon finished

I got this stupid idea to do as many patterns from Viking age Birka as I can. This is how it started: Birka B2

Closeup of one of my favourites. I made it approximately a year ago and it is still waiting for a new owner.

The Kaukola inspired belt is available in my shop! It is longer than usual - whole 3m 🌿 go to www.svetlonoska.com and either jump into "green" section or "Finnish Iron Age" section for details.

One of the warps I forgot to label so I have no clue what pattern I planned to do. This is what I came up with.

This project was not like I planned. Originally it was supposed to be a Latvian style band but after a few rows I saw it doesn't look good at all. After some calculations I rethreaded my tablets and voilà, a Finnish style band was born. Inspired by the 12th century Kaukola band. #tabletweaving

It's finished! The woven part is 2m long and tassels add cca 10 cm on each end. Very soon listed in my little shop www.svetlonoska.com
Based on an archaeological find from the Viking age Sweden commonly known as "Birka B9"

Oh no, Theseus is helping again!
He is very fond of chasing threads and loves to chew on the paper cones the yarn comes wound on, too. I guess I have to wait with the warp until he decides to take the afternoon nap. #catshelpweave #warp #handweaver #tabletweaving #yarn

Current #wip - a band inspired by a find from Viking Age burial discovered in Birka, Sweden. The original was much narrower and brocaded with precious metal thread. #weaving #tabletweaving #vikingage #reenactment

My favourite utensils. The long pointy shuttle is the oldest, I've had it for 9 years now. The newest one is the oak shuttle in the middle bottom. The small drop spindle is a hand carved copy of a Viking age utensil from Birka, Sweden. #handspun #weaving #fiberprepping #tabletweaving #oldcraft

Recently finished this band based on two fragments from Staraya Ladoga. The site is located in today's Russia however in the 10-12th century there was a permanent Viking settlement. The band is 385 cm long and just 1 cm wide. Shop:

This used to be one of my bestsellers when I still had an Etsy store. It is a pattern loosely based on a Viking age band from Birka, Sweden. And no. I don't normally dress up in medieval dress to record videos. The weaving takes too many hours 😊 #tabletweaving #hereticweaver #madeinnorway #vikingage
