We getting nostalgic over here for dinner tonight. Chicken and rice casserole. Added a few broccoli florets to it, as well as the staple mirepoix blend of veggies.

While I am learning #pixelart, I did want to share some assets I am making for one of my smaller #gamedev projects. Can't really get into it atm since I am trying to decide what the game "is", but spoiler alert, it involves cookies. Here's 6 I made. The goal is to get into triple digits if possible.

The #pixelart skeleton stick man method is coming together.

Testing out drawing muscles in 32 x 32 pixel art size. It's tough, but not bad! Arms don't provide a lot of real estate when you are trying to make a really large, wide torso. Gonna block it out and see what I can do with the form.

More poses (may have to click image to see the other two):

Yeah...no, I really like this. Reminds me of when I would pose the little mannequin figure I have for reference posing. This feels right.

Hi #pixelart and #gamedev ! Last time, I was trying out the silhouette method of pixel art for building characters. I am pivoting from that to try another method that is more akin to what I am more comfortable with (building from a skeleton). Shoutout to Brandon James Greer's video on the topic!

I can't recall if I ever shared this short story I wrote with any of you before, but in the event I had, sorry. But if I hadn't? Well, here you go. Doing some winter cleaning of my laptop and sorting stuff around and it popped up lol. #writing

I have utilized concepts such as shape theory (what I alluded to) as well as silhouette studies. You can do some cool stuff with just those two foundational understandings. Outside of that, you'd be surprised what a little bit of a day leads to. This was one of the first pixel arts I did vs now.

But seriously though. Anyone else think about what their skeleton looks like doing every day tasks? No?

Just me?

I have painted a bird before, or at least, my attempt at one. Years ago. Here was what I came up with.

As far as pixel art goes, I am going to be sticking with it, it's been a nice break from 3d models, I am enjoying the process. Will more so even now with being able to understand how to draw 3d objects and the like much easier.

Sorry to put you on blast btw! I wanted to make sure you got kudos.

Here we go @shrimpsykate.bsky.social ! Lol, left hand smudge on "After", but anyways, the two befores were before I started learning pixel art and general perspective digitally. After is well, after I have been working. So it's dramatically better!

Hi #pixelart, just another update with the silhouette. It's coming together. Still needs more tidying up, but it's getting harder to think of more to add. I want to mess with the arms and legs some more. But I will list the images from most current, to where it came from (check alt text as well)!
November 9, 2025 at 5:12 AM
Yup, something was hiding in there after all!

Ok, ok cool! We have something. Gonna see what I can do with this bud. So far the pixelart silhouette practice is paying dividends!

A lot more work to do, but holy cow, it's something. It's a character, could even fit into one of my gamedev projects!

Mallards! My two Rouen girls look exactly like the third picture.
November 8, 2025 at 9:05 PM
Hi #pixelart, I wanted to try out that silhouette method of drawing, so this was my attempt at making an otter.

Kind of happy with it, especially for a first crack at that method.

This was me testing out how effective one tile assets can be for level creation. Just a little mockup, but it gives you the idea of the type of perspective I am aiming for.

The second image was all from one cube. It's kind of cool because it shows you how much lifting one asset can do for levels!

So if you see in mine, I actually added quite a lot, and changed things enough. Mine has a border, that I learned I could make even though we didn't cover borders yet thanks to the button presses in how to draw the lines. and the paintings? same deal. Chair? etc etc.

Note I will be referencing the course I am taking right now, which is a pixel art one. It's not shaders, but similar approach should help with dealing with this so you feel like you are learning as you go vs following along. In my class, the teacher wanted us to create a room, specifically this one:

Took a bit of a detour cause I wanted to try a technique I learned from a digital art class a bit ago. Basically, you make a random shape out of one color, and paint in the color to see if you can make anything out of it. So here's a fun little pixelart doodle. Tough to do with only four colors!
October 27, 2025 at 11:02 PM
Here's a video I took of it. I guess be careful? I mean, it shouldn't be an issue for you provided it's not an honor mode run, because you will have backup saves, but yeah it killed any desire to continue for me. At least the bug is funny though!

Ya'll are welcome to tease me for this, but...

I lowkey have been feeling more confident the past few days at my #gamedev journey and keeping imposter syndrome at bay FAR easier and it's all thinks to pixelart. I slap some cubes in a tile map editor, and it feels real, even if it's nothing yet.
October 26, 2025 at 5:07 AM
Alright #pixelart, the room tutorial scene is done. He showed me enough to where I feel confident I can make my own room, so that's what I am going to be working on next. But basically, the biggest difference is the inclusion of the entertainment center.

I will also be doing a different palette.

Clouds cool and all, but Tifa is pretty much the real protagonist (and the real hero) of FF7 in my eyes.

Rough morning, getting some stuff off my chest. Mainly doing this for me to help cast it out so I can focus better.

Hoping I can get back to something more nourishing/productive: Creation.

I can't really do much about, well, anything grand scale...but I can at least create, and so I shall.

❤️
