I agree generally; I do think people have a lot of prejudices toward older fiction that aren't informed because they don't read them though! Books like Camilla, Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde are all fantastic works to go to in the Gothic. Maybe it's more a critic than writer problem though.
