But how can you say that it predicted the collapse of dmocrsacy when many whio itilize this perspective ewould see no difference between the US under Biden and the US under Trump? Genuine question.

Sort of. But many Marxists see no difference between the Republican and Democratic parties. But that is obviously wrong imho..

true. But almost everyone studying the USSR in the 1980s viewed the country as in decline. And the hiyper centralization of the party meant that Gorbachev had the capacity to destroy the system single handedly.
