Regardless, the entire thing just became a toxic cesspool and really made me alienate myself from the fandom as a whole. I follow a lot of the VAs still but it’s very rare that I will enter and actively speak within Hoyo spaces now because it’s just so bad. And THAT is absolutely the fandom’s fault.

Technically speaking, GR1 should have prevented most of these VAs from ever accepting these roles in the first place. So I think it’s a very natural progression of thought for a fan to read, “I wish SAG AFTRA would end the strike so I can work” and conclude that “Genshin is part of the SAG strike”.

To be very clear: I am not *blaming* the VAs for what went down, in the sense that they should or should not have done a particular thing. But I do think it is *unfair* to say that it’s entirely the fandom’s fault for assuming things based directly on the words of very specific, vocal VAs.

And I think once people started to learn that and feel as though they were mislead, it caused a huge rift to form. Because in the beginning of all this, a vast majority of the fandom supported the strike. I think the major shift was that realization.

I’m not saying the Genshin strike shouldn’t have happened or anything like that. But you had a LOT of VAs saying things like, “We cannot return to work.” Or “I wish SAG AFTRA strike would end so we can work again” when the reality was that it was always an individual choice.

Many fans were led to believe that these VAs were not allowed to return to Genshin because of the SAG AFTRA strike, when the reality was that it was always a personal choice of each individual VA. I think that fact was (either purposefully or accidentally) muddled due to the language VAs used.

I mean. I can’t fully blame them when you had VAs posting multi-tweet threads full of misinformation and misrepresented facts about the strike, only to have their supporters figure out months later they were lied to. I think there was a sense of betrayal there.

And I think the fact that VA’s themselves were spreading either misinformation or were just extremely, extremely (but also VERY publically) vague about so much just created this perfect storm of sorts. The whole thing was just really sad to watch and I’m glad it’s ending.

I agree with this sentiment but unfortunately, that was bound to happen the second the Genshin strike co-opted and latched onto the SAG-AFTRA without creating a really big distinction between the two.
