It’s not his calculation though; this data comes from the ONS who publish it with that framing (at least one foreign born parent). He’s just reposting stuff from the ONS press release.

What about Canada? They similarly experienced a surge in inward migration in recent years, which coincided with a considerable decline GDP per capita, Brexit obviously not being relevant there.

Those two examples are settler colonies though. Britain - at least historically - isn’t.

So what ethnic groups would you say are distinct and not mongrels of some sort?
February 18, 2025 at 11:00 PM
That’s the nature of all ethnic groups, that they originally hail from different genetic tribes. But they undergo ethnogenesis to become something distinct. Same as how all dogs originated from a common ancestor, but gradually came to be distinct breeds.

Seems pretty obvious no? A society comprised of people of different ethnicities (different common ancestries and lineages) living under a common dominant culture.

I’m confused as to what the contention is here?? If you believe ethnicity to be an analytically valid concept, then clearly ‘English’ is an ethnic group similar to any other, and as stated, is one of the most historically stable.

I’m sure it could, but it would be unable to even come close to matching the might of NATO. EU countries just don’t spend enough on defence.

NATO is the US. Without the Americans, it’s functionally non-existent.

Quite right. It’s important that the police send a strong message that misidentifying images online has consequences, no matter who you are. Whether or not any law was actually broken is irrelevant!

One major difference is that there isn’t anybody in British public life, let alone politics, that has a résumé even close to that of Vance.

I read that the Empire Windrush was never invited to Britain and Attlee actually tried to stop the ship from docking here. Shocking if true!
Is this narrative sufficiently reflected in the common culture?
