Oh! And I've got my copy of "My Evolution" up in the little studio library, too. (Not visible in this photo, but I promise it's there. I just cycle through what's visible up front over the course of the month.)

I split it with two artist pals, but they're super busy with outside work and keep different hours, so it's functionally just me in there 99% of the time. I really miss the collective crew at @helioscopepdx.bsky.social up in Portland, but this has been a fun space to build out solo!

Kriota's book is full of in-depth illustrated info about common injuries, steps to care for your body, and a general reconceptualization of being an artist as being a kind of endurance athlete, which I found super helpful. You can nab a copy here: bookshop.org/p/books/draw...

I've never forgotten having struck out at every likely-looking shop in Portland trying to buy a bunch of props for a very silly undergrad production, then getting someone from Lippman on the phone and hearing "Yes, of course we have that" for every item on the list.

Before I go: take a minute to breathe in real deep and picture yourself sitting in this driftwood shack at Rincon Point. Someone's hung a little rock from a hole left by a piddock clam. It's swaying in the breeze. There's an osprey overhead. You can see a seal in the surf. Soon you'll go swimming.

Seconding this with fervor. The Carol Tyler exhibit they’ve got up right now is truly extraordinary.

But THIS ONE is making me question my sanity because small children and seasoned academics alike haven’t ever heard the term “scuttlebutt” before??? buyolympia.com/Item/lucy-be...
Scuttlebutt by Lucy Bellwood
Back in the early 1800s, scuttlebutt (an alteration of scuttled butt) referred to a cask containing a ship’s daily supply of fresh water (to scuttle means “to cut a hole through the bottom,” and a ...

Issue 3 Page 19! Some extremely good "gunshot to hardcover book" sound effects.

My Crowded page is hanging up above the drawing board in my studio as inspiration these days so it IS a consolation. Nice to see your digital selves, friends!

It’s a mix! I opted for the Pilot Petit3 on this book before realizing it had been discontinued (whoops), but it’s refillable so riding that till it’s dead. Using it for foreground figures and anything that needs a juicy line. Fine details are done with a hard Faber-Castell PITT fude pen!
