Thank you. Knowing one's limits is indeed essential, and a kindness. I have a strong sense of 'calling', but it is towards education and scholarship in very broad terms, so I can see myself in other roles.

And I know that my employers and colleagues who may think of this as a zero-sum game are seeing this tweet and may think "another one bites the dust". I will always hold my head very high.

'Grinding' is the exact word. What I know if that, personally, I won't be able to go through many of these rounds. One will be enough for me. If I survive professionally this round of cuts, in the next cycle of the death spiral, I will take voluntary severance or redundancy.

In my small, imperfect way, I have always tried to fight precarity. It is hard to see that the situation is worse than ever.
