At least in San Francisco, there seem to be a lot of ostensibly well-meaning leftists opposing non subsidized (aka “luxury” or “market rate”) housing…but I also think a lot of old school NIMBYs know that they can cloak their selfish-sounding position in progressive language

Sadly no. I was once trying to help with a DEI initiative once and all my documents got edited by an “expert” with this kind of (probably well-intentioned) language (especially the word “minoritized”) that in my mind is counter productive
