Dad. Communications consultant/science writer guy. America's leading lawn gnome critic. Likes: bikes, science, camping, travel, frugality. Dislikes: lawn gnomes without eyes, quick declines into fascism.

The entire cabinet can all travel in one little car, which is amazing.

Or signs, seating cards, or directions.

At each table, we set gift bags of heirloom flower bulbs. On the day before we married, my MiL hired a last-minute wedding manager.

Ignorant of the bulbs (and the note), she ate an entire bag & left for the ER before the reception. Never did meet her.

I'm only shocked that he hadn't pardoned them already.

We were there for Ben's Eagle Project. We got 100 trees planted. Now we are sore.

This is precisely what Aunt Gloria did for Uncle George, along with reminders to use the handrails she installed everywhere.

This next year will be rough, though. I feel a tsunami of nonsense, lies, and propaganda on the horizon.

Somehow, this redneck rural cosplay thing has become the default setting in this country.

I was just thinking about this in To Kill a Mockingbird terms. Peck's Finch was a model for quiet strength, masculinity, and moral certainty.

We have rejected that model for violent, racist Bob Ewells.

Oh, no worries. I'm just appalled by what I saw in LA. The cops started breaking up crowds before the game was even over.

They set the tone for the night. Sure, watch out for trouble, but the people have the right to celebrate. The LA police turned a joyous community occasion into chaos and anger.

It is more of a difference in policing. When the Eagles won last year, I saw the right-wingers predicting Philly violence.

Instead, it was a joyous takeover of the streets, & the cops let it happen, policing when needed

OTOH, LA cops see public expression as violence and pre-emptively attacked

Single use?

We live in a country where people routinely buy $80K pickups for aspirational towing or hauling (one day, I might get a boat...). Normalizing that kind of thing probably makes people insane.
