Either way, I doubt we’re far apart on our estimation of this hire.

But he’s a solid floor and his extensive experience running a functional, stable, successful program probably has outsized value in UM’s current state.

Seems like chicken/egg

Either the sites have a blind spot irrespective of the coach, or the coach has a special talent for identifying talent that fits his scheme (or is able to maximize said talent) We saw that at UM the last 5+ years.

UW is a good example of how that is likely tied to a coach.

Not sure I’m understanding your argument. Is it that recruiting rankings are unreliable, ergo outperforming them is irrelevant?

Either way, whether Whit did more with less, or found talent the sites missed, is a mark in his favor for me. (I could be wrong!)

“Doing the most with the talent at hand” seems pertinent for every coaching job.

The question it raises is why he didn’t bring in better talent at Utah and can he do so at Michigan.

“Wildly impressive”, no.

But he consistently outperformed his recruiting rankings, by a fair distance, and there’s something to be said for being consistently quite good. He easily has the highest floor imo.

The biggest question to me is if he can recruit at a top 10 level

Intelligent voters understand this is Mamdani’s platform. He is signaling the issues and the people he will prioritize. Who knows if he can accomplish it. I do know that I’d rather vote for the candidate who sees the affordability struggles in NYC and will ACTUALLY TRY TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

I *guarantee* you she does not.

“You’re much shorter and fatter in person, but your hands are just as small as they look on tv!”

There’s zero chance he would have the attention span to write an entire op-ed.

If this was a tweet in all caps, then maybe.

Also, my guess is it wouldn’t jump to $30 overnight, as this graph implies.

Not only that, but you see his old rap videos and his current social media vids of him walking through neighborhoods talking to folks, he is *so clearly* a NYC kid. People who grew up here have a way of interacting with all the cultures of the city that is so unique, and profoundly American.
June 27, 2025 at 2:21 AM
We’ve had our fill of wealthy carpetbaggers and suburban interlopers. Maybe let’s give something else a try.
June 26, 2025 at 8:24 PM
To expand: it seems to me that Mamdani’s bio—a foreign born child of successful immigrants, educated in NYC public schools, returning to live in the city immediately after college, naturalized citizen—is exactly the type of person the city needs.

Again, with the absolute nonsense things that will never happen. You might as well worry about if California turns into Narnia.
June 26, 2025 at 4:16 PM
He voted for Trump to:
—Protect IVF
—Protect law abiding “illegals”
—End foreign wars

How’s that working out for you my dude?
June 26, 2025 at 3:26 PM
Yes!
“What radicalized you?”
“Right-wing memes”
June 26, 2025 at 2:45 PM
Wrong again! Since you seem intent on spouting off obviously, verifiably false things, this is clearly a waste of time. Doubly so since you clearly don’t live anywhere near NYC. So have a lovely day.
June 26, 2025 at 2:07 PM
Maybe educate yourself on Mandani’s lgbtq platform before spouting off.

Also, nothing changes the fact that comparing an industrial town of 100k to a global capital is top level galaxy brain stuff.

Or you can just keep blindly hating an entire ethnic group while calling other people racist 👍🏻
June 26, 2025 at 1:58 PM
Wasn’t gonna reply to you, but congrats on dumbest take of the week: What if NYC turns into Dearborn?!?
June 26, 2025 at 1:53 PM
Haha ok. Stay mad
June 26, 2025 at 1:50 PM
I know you don’t care what I have to say, but the fact is that this primary had the highest turnout of the last 25 years. And one of those other candidates (who happens to be Jewish) robustly and enthusiastically endorsed Mamdani.
